City of Cockburn: First Nations Engagement and Reconciliation Officer

the role

The City of Cockburn’s Family and Community Development team are seeking an energetic, motivated and committed individual of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander background to join the team and contribute to the ongoing strengthening of relationships between the City of Cockburn and the local First Nations community.

This role will support the development of various initiatives across the community and the organisation, in the form of training, events, projects and programs, to achieve a high level of cultural competency and to ensure outcomes in the City’s Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) are achieved.

The successful applicant will possess:

  • Qualifications and/or relevant experience in community services, community development or related fields.

  • Demonstrated experience working with the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community and developing networks and relationships.

  • Experience in working with Reconciliation projects and activities, and knowledge of Reconciliation Action Plans (RAP’s).

  • Demonstrated experience in planning, implementing and evaluating events and community-based projects.

  • Well-developed interpersonal communication and writing skills

  • Sound organisational and time management skills

  • Under Section 50(d) of the Equal Opportunity Act, Aboriginality is an essential criteria.

Salary: $73,837 - $86,453 per annum (pro-rata) depending on qualifications and experience.

Days/Hours: This position is part-time at 30 hours per week.
