Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander - Social Justice Commissioner

The Australian Human Rights Commission is recruiting for the role of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander – Social Justice Commissioner.

The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Social Justice Commissioner leads the Commission’s work relating to the protection and promotion of the human rights of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. This may include undertaking research and education campaigns and monitoring legislation and policy for compliance with the human rights of Indigenous Australians.

The Commissioner may report to the Attorney-General regarding the enjoyment and exercise of human rights by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples (Social Justice Report) and also in relation to native title (Native Title Report), including recommendations on the action that should be taken to ensure that these rights are observed.
