Today is Indigenous Literacy Day, celebrating stories, cultures, and language in support of our remote Indigenous communities, and literacy futures.
We want to build a strong Noongar Nation where all our people, young and old, have literacy skills.
The Indigenous Literacy Foundation is a not‑for‑profit charity driving this initiative. The foundation aims to minimise the barriers that limit remote Indigenous children to literacy resources. Therefore, limiting the literacy achievements of the children, as some communities have gone without libraries or bookstores.
The development of children’s literacy will positively improve the wider community by creating more opportunities for families. Through the generosity of supporters and sponsors, the community-led foundation can continue their important work in these remote Indigenous communities.
You can get involved in a range of ways including donating, fundraising, and volunteering. For more information, visit the Indigenous Literacy Foundation website.
