The Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries is seeking expressions of interest for suitably experienced Aboriginal leaders living in regional Western Australia to serve on the State’s Aboriginal Cultural Centre Steering Committee.
The Whadjuk people of the Noongar Nation, as Traditional Custodians of the land, will host the Aboriginal Cultural Centre which is planned to open in 2028. The centre will recognise and celebrate the diversity of Aboriginal cultural heritage from across Western Australia and develop community and commercial spaces for Aboriginal people.
In 2023, the structure of the Aboriginal Cultural Centre for Western Australia Steering Committee will expand to ensure participation and engagement by a wide range of Aboriginal community members, with a particular focus on regional representation.
Positions are available for up to six members for an interim term of office of 12 months with the possibility of extension. Successful applicants will need to have experience working in the interface between government and Aboriginal communities, or experience working in major projects or initiatives that engage with Aboriginal cultural knowledge.
Remuneration and allowances for Steering Committee community members is determined by the Minister.
