An invitation to Aboriginal artists to create an Acknowledgement of Country artwork to celebrate and increase awareness of Aboriginal lands and cultures
About the project
This exciting project is open to Aboriginal artists aged 16 years or over who have connections to the Country the artwork will represent.
We are seeking an artwork that proudly represents and celebrates the lands and stories connected to its people.
To submit your expression of interest, we request you provide digital images of at least three previous artworks that you have created along with a description of the artwork you’d like to create.
Once the artists have been selected, they will be given up to three weeks to create the artwork using canvas or a digital medium. The artist will then work with Nani Creative, an Aboriginal graphic design firm, to create the billboard version of their artwork which will include the application of RAC branding and colours.
The digitised artwork will be printed and displayed on billboards in the area for up to six weeks. An example of the billboard template, including RAC logo and messaging is shown below.
The original artwork, along with the artist’s story, will be kept and proudly displayed at the respective RAC location.
The selected artists will receive $5,000 and see their artwork permanently housed at an RAC location and temporarily feature on billboards during National Reconciliation Week in May 2022.
We invite Aboriginal artists with connections to the following Countries to apply:
Whadjuk
Wardandi
Yamatji
Minang
Yawuru
One artist from each Country will be selected to create an artwork.
Expressions of interest open Friday 18 February and close 10am Monday 7 March 2022.
